back pain while losing weight

Back pain while losing weight. Navigating the topic of weight and weight loss in today’s world can be a little tricky. Companies are constantly trying to sell us “magic” detox teas and pills, guaranteed to help us break that plateau. Our social media feeds are full of fitness models sharing “what they eat in a day” and their “fitness routines”. On the flip side, the body positive movement is in full force. Celebrities and influencers share their “flaws” and open up about their insecurities as a form of empowerment. Leaders of the movement are sharing their pride in who they are and opening up the acceptance conversation.

But even with a more engaging social conversation, there are still things being missed. One of those topics consists of some of the side effects that can occur when a person is losing weight and getting healthy. A specific side effect worrying some is back pain while losing weight. When we have more fat on us, it acts as a cushiony layer that insulates and keeps our insides in place. But when we lose that fat, those insides shift and we can find ourselves in more pain and discomfort than normal. When a person loses weight the curves in the spine may change and overall biomechanics will change. People may also increase their activities, which will cause greater stress and pain to the musculoskeletal system.

So how do we deal with this pain? What are the causes? How is it managed? Keep reading to learn more!

Weight Loss on the Keto Diet

Weight loss on the keto diet. Can a person experience weight loss on the keto diet? How great would it be if butter and bacon were considered “health foods”? Through the consumption of a lot of fat and close to zero carbohydrates, you too can enjoy enhanced health, a greater quality of life, increased athletic performance and brain function, and abs you can grate that cheese on. But is it too good to be true?

water intake

How often do you hear the advice to drink eight, eight-ounce glasses of water throughout your day? The 8×8 rule is pretty easy to remember and seems like a pretty reasonable goal. Most healthy people have an easy time staying hydrated by drinking water and other liquids whenever they are thirsty. But every one of us is different. Water intake required varies based on how active you are and a host of other factors. 8 glasses of water a day might just not be enough. So just how much water does a person actually need?

Pregnancy: The Webster Technique

Last week, we launched this three-part blog series on chiropractic care during pregnancy and the year to follow. Last week, we shared three reasons to try newborn chiropractic care. We found that it elongated the newborn’s spine, which is crucial because it is during these first few months that the spine begins its curvature development. We also discovered that chiropractic care helps to build a better immune system for your infant. It optimizes his/her nervous system and can even reduce ear infections. But what about Mom? What if her baby became breached? And what if that breaching caused more birthing traumatic damage?

No need to worry. As more and more women are finding the benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy, more and more chiropractors are becoming certified in a specialized, preparation adjustment called the Webster Technique.

Chiropractic Care during pregnancy

Welcome to our new three-part series regarding chiropractic care during pregnancy! Over the next few weeks, I want to share with you reasons why regular appointments with a chiropractor can help you both physically and emotionally throughout this magical time. Your body is going to drastically change over the next 9 months as it prepares to bring new life into the world. Your spine is going to structurally change, which will impede your body’s ability to communicate with itself. You may also begin to experience back pain, sore muscles, and headaches. But do not fear! Chiropractic care can help alleviate all of these side effects and natural un-pleasantries of pregnancy.

Newborn chiropractic care. When you think of someone going to the chiropractor, the first people that come to mind are athletes, the injured, and the aging. Newborn babies most likely come to mind last or perhaps don’t come to mind at all. As adults, we associate the chiropractor with a lot of pressure, cracking, and popping. You may be thinking, “What can be adjusted in an infant? Isn’t that dangerous?” But just like all kinds of medicines in life, chiropractic care for an infant is infinitely different than chiropractic care for adults.

Newborn chiropractor care specialist like me use much gentler adjustment methods, many of which go unnoticed by the baby. The pressure used on a small child is similar to the pressure you’d place while checking a tomato for ripeness – which is barely any at all.  The birthing process puts a lot of stress and pressure on a newborn, meaning that their first year of life may be the best time to be aligned as they continue to grow and prosper.  As a young mother and doula myself, I am acutely aware of this and my experience informs my approach as a wellness provider to young children.
